180º arte y leucemia
En 2015, inspirado por un diagnóstico de
leucemia y un posterior trasplante de médula ósea cambié la ironía de mis
cuadros de gran formato por los motivos vegetales, detalles de paisajes
inventados y explosiones de color, sobre las cajas desmontadas de las medicinas
que me tenía que administrar a diario.
Este proyecto comienza ese mismo año cuando realizo doscientas piezas individualizadas que se incluyeron como originales en el número 1 del fanzine 500 mts. Durante ese proceso creativo irá tomando forma 180º Arte y Leucemia.
Por un lado, estas obras, son un homenaje y un abrazo a la vida, y un anclaje a lo instantáneo. Por otro lado son, también, una suerte de alegoría, como un sacrificio ritual de protección, porque si bien es imprescindible la medicación para la adaptación al trasplante, tienen tantos efectos secundarios que tengo que administrarme otros medicamentos para contrarrestarlos y me limitan para hacer una vida del todo normal.
Es una narración del beneficio que supone la creatividad para el bienestar emocional de los pacientes hematológicos.
También es un intento de hacer visible un proceso del que a veces no somos plenamente conscientes, por doloroso, hasta que no nos vemos obligados a pasar por él. Por eso hablan al espectador de concienciarse de una realidad cada vez más frecuente, el cáncer hematológico, y de solidarizarse con los enfermos que lo padecen, cuya cura pasa casi siempre, después de un largo proceso de quimioterapia, por el trasplante de médula ósea para lo que es imprescindible la donación por parte de la población sana.
Por último, pero no menos importante, este proyecto es un gesto de agradecimiento a mi familia por su apoyo, en especial a mi hermano Enrique que me donó la médula y me devolvió a la vida.

Inspired by a diagnosis of leukaemia and a subsequent bone marrow transplant, I changed the irony of my large-format paintings for plant motifs, details of invented landscapes and explosions of colour, on the dismantled boxes of the medicines I have to administer to myself every day.
